Astralnauts and Other Nebulas

Domino Dollhouse's long awaited new 'Astralnauts' range has finally arrived and can go flying straight from their shop into your body. In the words of glorious fatshion queen, Tiffany of Fat Shopaholic 'Finally, galaxy shit in size fat'.

This stuff made such an impact that the preview pictures had been haunting my tumblr dash for weeks. When they finally launched the new line they were hit with so many curious fatties that the website was out of action for a few hours. I was crouched over my laptop hitting 'refresh' every three seconds for the duration.

I'm emptying my change purse to get myself those leggings. They're just that perfect simple addition to a simple outfit more intentional looking. That's what I like, something to spice up an outfit that takes absolutely no effort. This is the fashion equivalent of ordering Indian food.

My reasons for loving this print go into far more nerdy realms than the tie die, hippy, festival, psychedelic feel it's meant to have. Domino Dollhouse talk about witches and stuff as an inspiration in their blurb for the line and I can totally see the 90's grunge meets Mystic Meg stylings. (for those of you who don't know, she did something lotto related on English telly. I think. I was young and she dazzled me in all her high femme glory).

Look into her eyes for the lotto numbers or something...
But when I see galaxy print, all I think is:

And I love it. I jump straight past any mysticism and right onto Janeway.

Basically, I like this stuff best in the less witchy, grungey way and more in the aqua marina/ women in the original series of star trek way. That sort of, definitely futuristic, definitely space related, definitely painfully nerdy way. Something to wear whilst waiting for Kirk to show up, kiss us and then knock us unconscious.

So these dresses from Shadowplay NYC, that come in a one size fits some sack format are basically all I've ever wanted in life.

Buy the dress here and the scarf here
The fabric is actual prints of images from the hubble telescope, and the uniform non fit sack shape is far more sci fi than the flattering cut of the Domino Dollhouse range. I'm so suspicious of flattering cuts that I'm not happy unless I have to staple the garment to myself to stop it sliding off

They fit up to a 56 inch chest, which means it's roughly up to a uk 26. That's the upper end of the plus size section in most high street shops and the mid section of proper plus size ranges, so not ideal, but definitely a start. And they do scarves as well if that works better for you.

This kind of plus size shopping has opened up a whole new world for me, where instead of wailing and knawing through plaster walls when I can't get a UK24, I start to look at 'one size fits all' or the oversized stuff. Hell some of the best fitting tops I have I found are in the maternity section of 'normal' size shops. But I won't go into all that now, I'll do another post on how to shop outside of size restraints some day when I'm feeling more adventurous.

If you like the nerd fashion stuff, (who the hell doesn't?) here's a Rookie article on Retro Futurism and an article from 'listal.com' (??) on the top 50 Star Trek babesFor now just look at the pretty nebula prints and imagine you're on a planet far far away.
