In first year of college we studied film. That meant that every Thursday evening, us wild college types were given a dvd, and left in the colleges miniature cinema, which seated around 70 people. Left to our own devices we saw some amazing movies on those nights, things that would twist and bend my perception of the world and make me feel as though there were universal connections lying just outside of my reach. Though mostly we would just get drunk.
With that spirit in mind, we watched 'Do the Right Thing', a Spike Lee movie on the complexity of racism and the life and lifestyle of young black Americans at the time. We also got drunk.
From this scene, my drunk mind, wading through any and all subtlety and subtext, did not comprehend the biblical narrative, did not understand the use of monologue, did not absorb the depth of character. My mind simply rang out with 'I WANT THOSE RINGS'. (Sorry Spike Lee)
My chubby fingers refuse to comply with even the most rudimentary of jewelry, opting instead to appear chapped, unkempt and ultimately unadorned. That is until I discovered the wonders of the ADJUSTABLE ring! In our house we just buy the adjustable rings by the bag and glue on whatever crap we can find. cos that's just the way we roll.
